Successful operation: With the merger of the proof-of-work chain and the proof-of-stake chain in the Sepolia testnet on Ethereum, ETH developers have taken an important step towards upgrading the network. Yesterday, Wednesday, both the validators of the proof-of-work chain and the proof-of-stake chain, also known as the beacon chain, uploaded the update to the testnet.
However, the fusion of the chains was not entirely easy. About 25 percent of the nodes went offline shortly after the upgrade. The reason was “misconfigurations”, according to developer Terence Tsao.
Now only the dress rehearsal with the merger of the Goerli testnet is pending. It is not yet clear when Ethereum will actually switch to Proof of Stake. But it should happen this year.
