No crypto lock can do without memes. They heal wounds, build community, lift spirits, especially in difficult times. Terra’s disappearance is also giving the internet meme factory a nice boost. Terra investors mock founder Do Kwon, joking about themselves and the entire crypto market. Memes of him oscillate between therapeutic black humor, unpleasant gloating and ironic admissions. Three little masterpieces.
1. This is how Hitler finds out about the Terra accident
Movie clips adapted to current situations are a perennial favorite of meme culture. In this scene from Hitler’s drama The Downfall, the generals teach the Führer what happened to his crypto fortune after the stablecoin’s algorithmic crash. He goes on a tirade against the entire crypto market (“They promised me Lambos!”). The video takes a bit of time to get started, but it turns out to be a real gold mine of clever digs into crypto culture and the recent Terra crash.
2. Stan from South Park invests in DeFi and gets a nasty surprise
A long corridor, but always good. South Park once parodied the 2008 bank crash with “And…it’s gone.” The clip itself became a meme. In this version, Stan walks into a “DeFi bank” to deposit a check from his grandmother, the banker deposits it into DeFi, and mutters some jargon (“First we buy some BTC with that money, and then we convert it to REN-BTC at through a cross chain of atomic exchanges”). After thirty seconds, the famous joke follows: “And… it’s gone”.
3. Terra’s founder Do Kwon becomes the laughing stock of memes.
After the accident, the founder of Terra tried to appease the community for several days, explaining the situation from his point of view and promising to revive the project. How much some in the space think of him and appeasement of him is expressed in these delicious memes.
